If we could walk on just one beach for the rest of our lives, it would be our beach right here in Alnmouth. With its amazing expanse of sand and pretty estuary that looks picture postcard all year through, it’s one of the nicest beaches on the heritage coast.

We also think of Alnmouth as the amazing beach with a charming village attached. A place where everyone says hello, there’s something to enjoy whatever time of year you visit. Super dog friendly, it offers some of the area’s best pubs and restaurants too – make sure you read our food and drink section if, like us, you like your nosh.

Walking

Ranging from challenging long-distance trails with cosy pubs, to leisurely circular walks through pretty hamlets and wildlife rich coast and countryside, Northumberland has it all for walkers. ‘Alnmouth on Foot’ provides lots of local walks and there is a copy at St Valery for your use. There is also a selection of walking guides available which are produced by Northumberland Connections, a local business dedicated to showcasing the best of Northumberland.

Cycling

Own a MAMIL, or are one? Alnmouth is on the main cycle route for those who embrace Lycra, as well as those who like a more leisurely time on two wheels. We’ve got secure bike storage to keep the one-speed, 14-speed, every-speed perfectly safe ‘til morning.

Castles

With over 70 castles, Northumberland is home to more castles than any other county in England. From impressive ruins to fully restored sites there is something for everyone including Warkworth, Alnwick & Bamburgh. Please note winter opening hours can be very limited so always check opening days and times before you visit.

Wildlife

Puffins, seals, dolphins, wild goats, wild cattle are but a few of the rich array of wildlife in the area. Spot wild goats while walking in the Cheviots, explore forests and be rewarded by the sighting of deer or red squirrels or enjoy a boat trip to experience world class birdlife.

The Outdoors

You can play a round of golf in some of the most stunning and dramatic landscapes in Britain. You’ll be spoilt for choice in Alnmouth with 2 great golf courses to choose from. Or wrap up and take a trip out to sea to take in the Farne Islands to see a wide array of birds and wildlife. Or if you prefer something more adventurous our brilliant local activity providers offer kayaking, paddle boarding, surfing, axe throwing and much more.

Rich in history and beauty, visit one of the fascinating English Heritage or National Trust properties, enjoy one of the many independent houses such as Howick Hall, or take in a delightful park or garden such as The Alnwick Gardens or, the extensive and free, Hulne Park in Alnwick.

History

Whether your interest lies in The Romans, the Anglo-Saxons, the military, mining or even bagpipes there will be a museum for you. Ranging from the tiny Ferryman’s hut here in Alnmouth, to the new Anglo-Saxon venture Ad Gefrin, all celebrating our local heritage.

Rainy Days

Whilst Northumberland is beautiful the weather may not always be so, but don’t let it spoil your time with us. Spend hours whiling away the time in Barter Books, the largest second-hand bookstore in England housed in an old railway station, explore a museum, find a new treasure in an antique shop or pamper yourself in a nearby spa.
